International Standard Classification of Education

ISCED 1997

Currently the International Standard Classification of Education adopted in 1997 is used by most countries.

ISCED 97 describes 6 levels of education, each of them is characterized by major classification criteria. It determines the approximate duration of educational programs, access to continuing study and classifies educational fields.

ISCED 2011

The ISCED 2011 classification was adopted by the UNESCO General Conference at its 36th session in November 2011. 

ISCED 2011 includes improved definitions for types of education and clarifies their application to ISCED in accordance with the changes took place in the world educational space in general, and in the systems of education of different countries in particular.
